Woodworking Program Leader
Position Summary Ruth & Naomi’s Mission has been serving Chilliwack for over 20 years, walking with people on their journey out of homelessness, addiction, and trauma toward healing and hope. At the heart of everything we do is a desire to see lives transformed by the love of God. As a Christian faith-based organization, we are looking for volunteers who are passionate about walking alongside people in their journey, demonstrating care, compassion, and practical support. The WorkBench Program Lead is a high-impact role designed to provide seniors at The Grove with a sense of purpose, dignity, and creative expression. You will lead weekly woodworking or repair sessions in our dedicated shop, helping participants build physical projects while fostering mentorship and community. This role is essential for our Empowerment Programs, moving beyond basic service to skill-building and personal growth. Responsibilities • Lead weekly woodworking sessions or small-scale repair workshops. • Maintain a safe, organized, and encouraging shop environment. • Demonstrate tool safety and proper technique to participants. • Collaborate with staff to identify projects that suit varying mobility levels. • Foster meaningful relationships with seniors through shared labor and conversation. • Manage shop supplies and communicate equipment needs to the Grove Manager. Ideal Candidate • Experienced in woodworking, carpentry, or general "handyman" skills. • Patient, encouraging, and comfortable mentoring older adults. • Safety-minded with a high attention to detail in a shop environment. • Able to commit to a weekly schedule for the duration of a program "season." • Willing to complete a Criminal Record Check. • Supports the mission and values of Ruth & Naomi’s Mission. • Comfortable serving in a Christian faith-based environment.
