Did you know each year 58% of all food produced in Canada (35.5 million tonnes) is lost or
wasted? This is enough food to feed the ⅛ Canadians facing food insecurity, and reduce the 56.6 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions produced from food waste annually.

Zero Food Waste Foundation Ltd. (Zero Waste) is a registered non-profit operating in Calgary, Edmonton, Hamilton and Ottawa that redirects leftover food from businesses to Canadians in need. Zero Waste’s mission is to achieve zero food waste ending up in landfills, eradicate hunger and poverty while eliminating greenhouse gas emissions resulting from food waste. Zero Waste works with over 35 local restaurants, bakeries, and grocers to provide Canadians in need with nutritious food that would otherwise be thrown away. To-date Zero Waste has redirected over 145,000 lbs of food from landfills, and provided 71,000 meals to communities facing food insecurity.

The food rescued and delivered helps countless service agencies, such as the Drop-In Center, the Mustard Seed Foundation, Calgary Alpha House, Children’s Cottage Society, and Inn from the Cold as well as over 25 other charities to reduce their annual grocery bills, alleviate stress and provide financial relief to reinvest funds into housing, education and other essential social support services and programs.
