Senior Operations Manager — Wings of Hope Global Foundation

3936 29 Street Northeast, Calgary, AB T1Y 6B5, CALGARY, AB, T1Y 6B5 [map]
4-5 hours / weekly
Ongoing
Wings of Hope Global Foundation is seeking a passionate, mission-driven Senior Operations Manager to lead our growing charitable organization. This is a volunteer leadership role with the opportunity to shape the future of a 15-year-old charity that serves Black, newcomer, and racialized communities across Calgary.

ABOUT US
Wings of Hope Global Foundation (CRA #850144502RR0001) was founded in 2011 and has operated in Calgary since 2016. We empower Black families and communities by fostering self-sufficiency and alleviating poverty. Nearly 30% of Black households in Canada experience food insecurity — twice the national rate. We exist to change that.

Our flagship Cultural Food Bank provides culturally appropriate groceries — familiar spices, staples, and gift cards that preserve dignity and choice. We also run senior wellness programs (cooking circles, digital literacy, storytelling), after-school tutoring, community kitchens, and settlement support for newcomers. We serve families in 9 languages across NE Calgary, Applewood, and Airdrie.

THE ROLE
As Senior Operations Manager, you will work closely with the Founder and Board of Directors to provide strategic and operational leadership. Key responsibilities include:
• Setting and executing the organization's strategic direction alongside the Board
• Overseeing day-to-day operations, programs, and staff
• Leading fundraising strategy — grants, sponsorships, donor development, and events
• Building relationships with funders, government, corporate partners, and community stakeholders
• Ensuring strong financial management, reporting, and compliance with CRA requirements
• Representing WOHFA publicly at events, media engagements, and community forums
• Supporting volunteer recruitment, engagement, and retention
• Strengthening organizational systems, policies, and governance as we scale

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
• Proven leadership experience in nonprofit management, social enterprise, or community development
• Strong understanding of fundraising, grant writing, and donor relations
• Financial literacy — comfort with budgets, reporting, and CRA compliance
• Excellent communication skills — written, verbal, and public speaking
• Cultural competency and genuine connection to the communities we serve
• Strategic thinker who can also roll up their sleeves
• Experience working with a Board of Directors
• Passion for food security, immigrant inclusion, and community empowerment
Certification or Education Required
No formal certifications required. Experience in nonprofit leadership, fundraising, or community development is an asset. Background in business administration, social work, or related fields is welcome but not mandatory.
Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
Gain hands-on executive leadership experience at a registered Canadian charity. Build your portfolio in nonprofit strategy, fundraising, governance, and stakeholder relations. Expand your professional network across Calgary's nonprofit, corporate, and government sectors. Develop cross-cultural leadership skills while making a measurable impact on food security and immigrant inclusion in your community.
