Threads That Thrive provides skills workshops where individuals can learn to make, repair, and alter clothing to represent their gender identity better.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Sewing Instructor with exceptional sewing skills, strong interpersonal skills, and familiarity with the 2SLGBTQ+ community to facilitate sewing workshops, guiding participants in modifying clothing to suit their gender and body expression. As a Sewing Instructor, you will play a pivotal role in developing and delivering a high-quality curriculum of wardrobe modification workshops and fostering a supportive learning environment for gender-diverse individuals. With your commitment to promoting diversity and inclusivity, you'll help create a welcoming environment where everyone feels empowered to express themselves through clothing. Join us in fostering a community where sewing skills meet self-expression!

A successful candidate will be able to commit 12-15 hours per month.
 
Candidate Requirements: 

An ideal candidate will possess the following skills and abilities:
• Commitment to inclusivity and diversity: Foster a positive and inclusive environment that celebrates diversity and respects individual identity
• Sewing skills: Proficiency in a variety of sewing tools and techniques, including but not limited to machine sewing and garment alteration
• Teaching ability: Ability to instruct and demonstrate clients in sewing techniques, including the basic maintenance and operation of sewing machines, and ability to develop and implement engaging lesson plans tailored to meet the needs of beginner and intermediate-level clients
• Interpersonal skills: Ability to work efficiently with others, build connection, and establish trust with clients
• Develop others: Willingness to invest time and effort in supporting clients to overcome challenges and achieve their sewing goals
 
Other Qualifications:
• Eligible to work in Canada
• Previous experience as a sewing instructor or demonstrable expertise in sewing is required
• Familiarity with the 2SLGBTQ+ community will be considered an asset
• Flexible schedule to accommodate weekend workshops as needed
• Ability to maintain client confidentiality 
• Ability to volunteer 1-2 times a month 
• Ability to stand or sit for extended periods
• Ability to move and carry sewing equipment and tools occasionally up to 50 pounds
• Driving license is an asset

• Will be subjected to background checks after the interview process
