Youth Development Mentor
As a Youth Development Coach for the Salvation Army's youth program, your role is integral to empowering young individuals aged 13 to 17 in Forest Lawn. With the support of the Youth Facilitator, you could lead engaging sessions focused on areas such as arts, sports, life skills, financial literacy, and leadership. You will provide participants with valuable knowledge and experiences to support their personal growth and development. Key Accountabilities: Program Facilitation, Participant Engagement, Curriculum Development, Mentorship and Support, Community Engagement, Documentation and Reporting, Safety and Well-being, and Professional Development. Volunteers will assist in the development of the program outline and facilitate classes. Volunteers can commit to 1–4 sessions per month. we just ask for consistency so we can plan effectively. Another important reason is so the youth know what to expect and can build strong relationships. Specific Program Roles include: Leadership Program Facilitator We are looking for a passionate and motivated volunteer to help facilitate a leadership program for youth aged 13-17. As a facilitator, you’ll guide participants through activities and discussions that focus on developing leadership skills, teamwork, and personal growth. This is a great opportunity to mentor young people and help them build confidence for the future. Once a week for two hours. Manga Artist (Workshop Leader) We are looking for a talented manga artist to volunteer as a workshop leader for a one-time session with youth aged 13-17. As the manga artist, you'll introduce participants to the art of manga, guiding them through drawing techniques, character creation, and storytelling through visuals. This is a fantastic opportunity to share your passion for manga with young, creative minds! Youth Development Mentor: Badminton Coach Support our Racket Rumble program by coaching youth ages 13–17 in the basics of badminton. No formal coaching experience required—just a love for the sport and a passion for building relationships with youth in a safe, inclusive space. Mondays, 4:00–7:00 PM. Youth Development Mentor: Pickleball Coach Help introduce youth to the fast-growing sport of pickleball! Volunteers will encourage participation, teach fundamentals, and create a positive space for learning and fun. Mondays, 4:00–7:00 PM. Youth Development Mentor: Table Tennis Coach Join us in creating a fun and active atmosphere where youth can learn and play table tennis. Ideal for someone who enjoys engaging with teens and promoting good sportsmanship. Mondays, 4:00–7:00 PM. Youth Development Mentor: Games Night Leader Lead fun, low-key evenings of board games and video games in a relaxed, welcoming environment. Perfect for someone who enjoys gaming, conversation, and creating safe spaces for youth to connect. Wednesdays, 4:00–7:00 PM. Youth Development Mentor: Rec & Gym Games Coach Join our Hangtime program and help lead a variety of fun, active games for youth ages 13–17! From dodgeball and relay races to basketball and other creative gym-style games, this role is perfect for someone who enjoys movement, teamwork, and creating an inclusive space where everyone feels welcome to join in. You'll support positive peer interaction, encourage participation, and model respectful play in a casual, drop-in environment. Fridays, 4:00–7:00 PM.
