Adult Education Program Assistant

Role Purpose Summary: 
To facilitate basic skills in one or more selected areas.  Areas cover a wide range of topics:
•	ESL - English as a second language (i.e. conversational, reading and writing) 
•	Living skills (i.e. relationships, goal setting, decision making, refusal skills, anger man-agement, organization skills, etc.)
•	Financial literacy (i.e. budgeting, credit, banking, assets, consumerism)
•	Hobbies (i.e. sports, art, music, knitting, sewing, gardening, scrapbooking, journaling, etc.)
•	Life skills 
•	Arts & Crafts
•	Other topics that are added to the curriculum


Key Accountabilities: 
•	Facilitate classes independently to clients accessing The Salvation Army programs
•	Mentor clients by encouraging functional skill development for living, learning and work-ing 
•	Coach learners in a group or one-to-one settings in various program areas. 
•	Assist in the development of program outline and curriculum
•	Assist with the program evaluation

Schedule:
•	Dependent on the volunteer’s availability and course schedule; to be worked out together with Community Program Manager and/or the Adult Education Facilitator.
Certification or Education Required
Qualifications: 
•	Subject-matter expert in selected area is an asset
•	Facilitation skills and experience
•	Knowledge of adult education principles
