Chief Executive Officer (CEO) — Teach to Grow Canada Foundation
Teach to Grow Canada Foundation is looking for a dedicated and strategic Chief Executive Officer to lead our organization into its next chapter. This is a volunteer leadership role with real impact — guiding a 12-year-old registered charity that empowers newcomer and low-income families through education, nutrition, and community-driven programming in Calgary. ABOUT US Teach to Grow Canada Foundation (CRA #818686768RR0001) was founded in 2013 with a simple belief: education builds lasting change, not dependency. We work with newcomer, low-income, and racialized families — equipping them with skills and resources that last. Our flagship Help Kids Canada program supports 250+ families annually with back-to-school supplies, nutrition support, and family learning resources. Our Healthy Minds, Full Plates program teaches children and parents practical nutrition and wellness skills together. We also run Peer Learning Circles for newcomer parents and Family Learning Programs covering cooking, budgeting, and financial literacy. With a lean operating model, 85% program efficiency, and a growing portfolio of community partnerships, we are positioned for significant growth in 2026 and beyond. THE ROLE As CEO, you will partner with the Founder and Board of Directors to drive strategy, operations, and community impact. Key responsibilities include: • Leading organizational strategy and long-term planning alongside the Board • Overseeing programs, operations, and a small but committed team • Driving fundraising efforts — grant writing, donor cultivation, sponsorships, and events • Building and maintaining relationships with funders, government, corporate sponsors, and community partners • Managing financial oversight, CRA compliance, and transparent reporting • Serving as the public face of Teach to Grow at community events, media engagements, and stakeholder meetings • Expanding volunteer engagement and organizational capacity • Strengthening internal systems, governance, and policies as the organization scales WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR • Leadership experience in nonprofit management, education, social enterprise, or community development • Understanding of fundraising, grant writing, and donor engagement • Financial literacy — budgets, reporting, and CRA compliance • Strong communication skills — written, verbal, and public speaking • Cultural competency and genuine connection to newcomer and racialized communities • A collaborative leader who leads by example • Experience working with or on a Board of Directors • Passion for education, family empowerment, and reducing inequality TIME COMMITMENT Approximately 4–6 hours per week with flexibility. Board meetings, community events, and funder meetings may require occasional in-person attendance in Calgary. This is a meaningful opportunity to lead a growing, community-rooted charity — and to directly shape how newcomer families access education, nutrition, and opportunity in Calgary.
Certification or Education Required
No formal certifications required. Experience in nonprofit leadership, fundraising, or community development is an asset. Background in business administration, social work, or related fields is welcome but not mandatory.
Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
Gain hands-on executive leadership experience at a registered Canadian charity. Build your portfolio in nonprofit strategy, fundraising, governance, and stakeholder relations. Expand your professional network across Calgary's nonprofit, corporate, and government sectors. Develop cross-cultural leadership skills while making a measurable impact on food security and immigrant inclusion in your community.
