SupportWorks Inc.

SupportWorks began in 2009 when one of our founders recognized the need for community-based mental health peer support in Calgary and recruited others that shared her vision. As a program designed to complement the formal healthcare system, SupportWorks started with one weekly support group meeting to help people living with mood and anxiety disorders. Today, we proudly offer multiple support groups at locations throughout the city.
With a passion for mental health and helping others, we’ve since grown to become a registered non-profit, followed shortly by full Charitable organization status. We continue to grow, with plans to develop community awareness and education programs to provide participants with the opportunity to develop new coping skills in a variety of safe, social environments design to alleviate the isolation that often accompanies mental illnesses.
Since beginning our mission to provide Calgarians with safe and confidential spaces, we’ve helped more than 1,000 adults living with mental illness on their road to recovery.
We’re proud that SupportWorks is and always has been 100% operated by dedicated volunteers, many of whom have personal experience with mental illness. Together, we’re committed to providing peer support in communities throughout Calgary, building a long-term positive impact on mental health recovery and eliminating the stigma surrounding mental illness.
