Good Food Box - Sunalta Evening Pick Up
The Good Food Box (GFB) is a program run by Community Kitchens Calgary, whereby anyone can purchase boxes of fresh fruits and vegetables at an affordable price. As a proud Good Food Box pick up depot, Sunalta values making healthy and affordable food options accessible. These boxes are assembled off-site by Community Kitchens volunteers and then delivered to the Sunalta Community Association once a month for pick up. Typically these boxes are only available for pick up in the morning but if we can gather enough regular volunteers, we are able to offer a pick up in the evenings as well! This volunteer shift consists of waiting with the boxes after hours and handing them out to people who have ordered them as they arrive at the hall. This is a calm, low stress volunteer opportunity. Well-suited for people enjoy customer service, routine, and who want to make an impact but don't have much time. We offer free wifi so during this shift and encourage volunteers to bring something to do or work on as things can get pretty slow depending on the evening. GFB pick ups occur approximately one Wednesday per month from 4:30-7:00PM. The Sunalta Community Association is committed to building an inclusive and diverse organization. We encourage people of all visible minorities, including Indigenous and Newcomer applicants, and those of any religion, sex, age, ability, sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression to apply. Please reach out to samit@sunalta.net directly if you have any questions or concerns or to arrange for alternate accommodations.
Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
This is a quiet shift. The primary role of the volunteer is to oversee the pick up of Good Food Boxes from Sunalta. The boxes are delivered filled and assigned to the individuals who already ordered them. This role has an incredible impact on the community by providing an affordable food resource in an area with limited grocery options. Volunteers have access to wifi and are welcome to do homework or other work during their shift.
