Youth Rights & Advocacy-Youth 16-30 with Lived Experience of Parental Substance Use

2-2 hours / weekly
-
Starlings ARC is a peer-informed space for young people (ages 16–30+) who have grown up with the stigma of a parent’s substance use, mental health challenges, or system involvement. Together, we learn about our rights, talk honestly about systems and power, and explore small but meaningful ways to advocate for ourselves and our communities.

Why does ARC exist?

-Many of us grew up not knowing or experiencing our rights
-Young people are often expected to navigate complex systems alone
-Stigma makes it harder to ask for help or speak up
-Youth voices are often not included in decisions that affect them.
-There is a need for a peer space to talk about our experience's

ARC creates space to slow down, build shared language, and understand that what feels personal is often structural, and self-advocacy is a form of care.

After ARC

ARC is a complete program on its own. There is no expectation to continue beyond the 7 weeks.
After completing ARC, participants may be invited to explore joining the Youth Advocacy Council (YAC) if they’re interested. YAC is an ongoing, flexible space for ARC alumni who want to stay involved in advocacy, storytelling, policy and systems change within Starlings Community. More information will be given on the last session of the ARC program!
