Content Creator for youth mental health organization
3-5 hours
/ weekly
6 months
Are you passionate about social justice, mental health, and youth empowerment? Join Starlings Community as a Volunteer Content Creator and help us share stories that challenge stigma and inspire hope. You’ll take our content, photos, videos, and written pieces, and do your magic bringing them to life across our digital platforms. From shaping posts and captions to editing reels or graphics, your creativity will help amplify the voices of young people growing up with the stress and stigma of a parent’s substance use through modern and engaging ways. We’re looking for someone who brings creativity, organization, and lived or learned experience related to substance use, mental health, or community work. You’ll work alongside a team that values justice, collaboration, and community care. This is a great opportunity to grow your digital storytelling skills, gain nonprofit communications experience, and make a tangible impact on how communities understand and support youth mental health. Who You Are: You have lived or learned experience with the stigma or stress of a parent’s substance use, and want to use your storytelling (content creation) or insight to create change. You understand social justice, equity, and trauma-informed storytelling, and bring empathy and intention to how stories are told. You have experience and are efficient at creating social media posts. You do not have to be comfortable in front of the camera, but if you enjoy it, that is an asset. You’re passionate about helping youth and peers feel seen, heard, and empowered. What You’ll Do Develop and schedule engaging social media content (Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.) that speaks to youth and young adult audiences (16–28). Create posts, reels, and campaigns that share Starlings’ message and elevate peer leaders and lived-experience voices. Support digital storytelling campaigns (e.g., Rights in Motion, Forward with Hope, Peer Mentorship stories). Collaborate with youth leaders and the communications team to build consistent, hopeful messaging. Track engagement and help grow our reach through thoughtful, authentic connection, not algorithms alone. Requirements 3-5 hours of availability per week. Experience with digital marketing or social media content creation (Canva, Instagram Reels, TikTok, or similar). Organized and self-directed, able to meet timelines while working collaboratively. Strong writing and communication skills; able to adapt tone for youth and professional audiences. Understanding of anti-stigma, trauma-informed, and equity-based approaches. Willingness to appear in or co-create video content. Comfortable using tools like Canva, Google Drive, and Wix (training provided if needed). Why Join Starlings? You’ll be part of a peer-led, healing-centered movement that believes hope starts with connection. Your work will help youth and families find support without fear or shame—and build a future where their voices lead change.
