Sewing Seeds Canada
Sewing Seeds Canada (SSC) is a direct result of successful Canadian clothing company, Sun Ice Ltd. When Sylvia Rempel sold Sun Ice in 2004, she started SSC to 'give back' to impoverished communities globally.
Currently, SSC has sewing schools in Sierra Leone, Ukraine, Peru, Mexico, and now Haiti. Schools graduate up to 100 students per year, and encourage Graduates to use their new skills: at home, to find employment, create their own company, or become a Teacher! The sewing skill enhances the lives of every Graduate.
SSC is working towards Canadian projects with First Nations, Homeless, and other deserving communities 'Coast to Coast'.
With more than 10 years of learning, SSC is now receiving applications from many Communities at home and abroad. The need to grow has never been stronger.
Not only does SSC look for experienced Sewers to "Train as Trainers", who in turn then "Teach Teachers", but SSC is also looking for Support Teams.
SSC is blessed with incredible Documentary videos, from Rick Castiglione, that even appear on CBC from time to time.
Growth for SSC will come as Expert Volunteers in media, website, print, written stories, graphic illustrations, fund development, PR efforts, and so many more areas are filled!
Already, steps are being made to bring the entire SSC Sewing Curriculum into: Teachers manuals, Student workbooks, online video modules, etc.. making it far more accessible Globally.
