Second Harvest is Canada’s largest food rescue organization and is a global thought leader on perishable food redistribution. We partner with thousands of food businesses across the supply chain to redirect unsold surplus food to non-profit organizations that feed communities in every province and territory. By keeping perfectly edible food out of landfills and redirecting it to the charitable sector, we prevent harmful greenhouse gases from entering the atmosphere and improve access to nutrition for the millions of people in Canada experiencing food insecurity.

About the Opportunity
Second Harvest is recruiting Volunteer Workshop Facilitators to join a pilot Training Program in Calgary, Edmonton, and Winnipeg. Working closely with the Learning & Engagement team, volunteer Facilitators will deliver engaging educational workshops in-person and virtually, focused on food waste reduction and Second Harvest’s mission.

This is a meaningful opportunity to build facilitation skills, support climate action, fight hunger, and engage diverse audiences in creating positive change.

Key Responsibilities
• Facilitate in-person training workshops and education sessions on Second Harvest and food waste reduction for a variety of local audiences including community groups, corporate teams, students and more
• Participate in train-the-trainer sessions delivered by Second Harvest to ensure the subject matter is being delivered consistently across key markets
• Work with the Learning & Engagement team to secure and schedule trainings
• Support the evaluation process by providing regular feedback to the Learning & Engagement team and sharing participant feedback through surveys
• Maintain records of training sessions, attendance and participant feedback
Time Commitment
• Approximately 1-2 training sessions per month between March and June 2026, with possibility of extension
• Each training session will be approximately 2 hours long
• Volunteers will complete a Train-the-Trainer program prior to facilitating workshops (approximately 6-8 hours of individual learning)

• Working remotely, in-person
• Seeking volunteers in: Calgary, Edmonton, or Winnipeg

Qualifications
• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Previous experience in training, facilitation, teaching, community service, or advocacy is an asset
• Passionate about food waste prevention and its impact on climate
• Strong communication and presentation skills
• Ability to adapt training techniques to different learning styles and/or audiences
• Able to manage tasks efficiently to ensure that they are completed in a timely manner
• Proficient computer skills including MS Office Suite, virtual meetings
• Willingness to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check
• Bilingual in EN/FR is an asset
