Volunteer Board of Director - Prescription to Get Active (RxTGA)
100-200 hours
/ yearly
3 year-renewable for 3 terms if desired
Are you passionate about the power of physical activity to improve health and well-being? Do you want to make a difference in the lives of Canadians by supporting an innovative, community-driven health initiative? Prescription To Get Active (RxTGA) is seeking committed and community-minded individuals to join our Board of Directors. We are especially interested in candidates with experience in fundraising, marketing, legal affairs, health care professionals or fitness & recreation experts to help guide and strengthen our organization. Individuals should be willing to participate on a committee, as part of their governance role. ________________________________________ About RxTGA RxTGA is an extra-provincial not-for-profit corporation, governed by a volunteer board and supported by provincial and municipal chapters. We empower healthcare providers to prescribe physical activity just like medication—encouraging patients to become more active through access to free trials at fitness and recreation centres, sport organizations, and online programs. Our goal is to bridge the gap between health care and community recreation, using physical activity to help prevent and manage chronic health conditions and improve overall quality of life. ________________________________________ Board Member Responsibilities Board members are elected for a three-year term and are expected to: • Attend approximately 10 board meetings per year (virtually). • Willing to participate on a committee aligned with their area of expertise, as part of their governance role. • Provide strategic oversight and sound judgment to support organizational direction and priorities. • Support and promote RxTGA’s mission within your personal and professional networks. • Contribute to board discussions on policy, risk management, evaluation, fundraising, partnerships, and advocacy. ________________________________________ Ideal Experience and Skills We welcome expressions of interest from individuals with: • Proven experience in fundraising, marketing, legal affairs, healthcare leadership, fitness, recreation or sport leadership in Alberta. • Previous board or committee experience (nonprofit governance is an asset). • Strategic thinking and collaborative decision-making abilities. • A commitment to public health, physical activity promotion, or health equity. • A willingness to lead or actively support a board committee in your area of expertise. ________________________________________ Why Join the RxTGA Board? Serving on the Board of RxTGA offers an opportunity to: • Champion an evidence-informed program making real impacts in communities. • Be part of a motivated, respectful, and hard-working team of volunteer leaders. • Play a hands-on role in shaping the future of health promotion in Canada. “RxTGA is a tremendous organization with a compelling purpose. Our Board of Directors provides organizational leadership with a focus on respect, collaboration, and effort. It’s not always easy, but it’s extremely fulfilling and very impactful.” ________________________________________ Ready to Get Involved?
