Volunteer Board Member

Handsome Alice Theatre is devoted to amplifying women, trans and non-binary voices through the development, creation and production of theatre works that are inclusive, curious and rebellious.

We act as a catalyst for activating the unheard voices through performances and events that empower artists and community. We have a vision for being a performance hive where big ideas meet creation. 

The Board supports the work of Handsome Alice Theatre and provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While Handsome Alice’s Artistic Producer leads the day-to-day operations, the Board-Artistic Producers relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected. 

Are you able to commit to?
•	Two years appointed or elected annually at the Annual General Meeting. Maybe reelected for two additional terms. 
•	Quarterly board meetings (virtual)  
•	Attend one scheduled General Board meeting a month from September to June (Annual Board Meeting AGM in September in conjunction with GBM) 
•	Commit to serve on a least one standing committee or be involved in assigned task meetings or special assignments

Are you willing to?

•	Provide leadership, governance and oversight to Handsome Alice Theatre

•	Share your knowledge and skills in one or more areas of Board Governance, Finance, Marketing, Communications, Fund Development, Human Resources, Graphic Design, Event Planning, Contracts, and or Advocacy

•	Approve Handsome Alice’ Theatre’s annual budget, reports, and material business decisions whilst at the same time being informed of, and meeting all, legal and fiduciary responsibilities

•	Contribute to and support fundraising activities, performances, and events through personal attendance and contributions and by generating support from friends and other contacts 

•	Champion and inform others about our company so that we are able to broaden our circle of supporters, by linking other individuals and resources

•	Promote the Handsome Alice’s mandate in the community 

•	Assist with identifying, recruiting and electing new Board members in consultation with the Artistic Producer and Governance Committee
