Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta - Construction Volunteer

Help build affordable homes and stronger communities with Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta!

Our construction volunteers work alongside Habitat staff, skilled tradespeople, Crew Leaders, and other volunteers to help build safe, decent, and affordable homes for local families. No previous construction experience is required, we provide the training and guidance you need.

Whether you are an experienced DIYer or have never picked up a hammer before, there is a place for you on our construction sites!

Construction volunteers may assist with a variety of tasks depending on the stage of construction, including:
-Framing and basic construction tasks
-Installing insulation and drywall
-Painting and finishing
-Landscaping and site cleanup
-Moving and organizing materials
-Using basic hand and power tools under supervision
-Maintaining a clean and safe work area

We are looking for volunteers who are:
-16 years of age or older
-Reliable, enthusiastic, and willing to learn
-Comfortable working as part of a team
-Able to follow safety instructions and direction from Habitat staff and Crew Leaders
-Comfortable working in a physically active environment
-Willing to get their hands dirty and have fun!

Time Commitment:
-Construction volunteer shifts are generally one full day
-Volunteers can sign up for shifts that fit their schedules (whether you are looking to volunteer once in a while or become a regular member of our construction volunteer team).

Construction volunteering is active and hands-on. Volunteers should be comfortable:
-Standing and walking for extended periods
-Bending, kneeling, and reaching
-Lifting and carrying materials
-Working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
-Performing repetitive physical tasks

Volunteer opportunities are available at Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta construction sites throughout Calgary and surrounding communities. Specific build locations will be provided when you register for a shift.
