Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta Crew Leader Volunteers

7-7 hours / monthly
Min 1 year (~3 shifts/month)
Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta brings the community together to build affordable homes for families right here in Calgary! Last year alone we were able to move 31 hardworking families and 90 children into stable affordable homeownership. 

NONE of this would be possible without our incredible Crew Leader volunteers!!! And we need more help! 

If you are looking for a volunteer role that is:
-FLEXIBLE (no set schedule & shifts available Tuesdays to Saturdays)  
-Uses hands on skills & provides an opportunity to keep active 
-Allows you to connect and socialize with like-minded individuals  
-Gives back in a very tangible way to community members in Calgary 
-Allows you to still go to your winter escape property for 4 months of the year (bonus!)

Time Commitment: Regular commitment (approx. 3 shifts/month but we can talk if you need more flexibility) 

Job Duration: For the duration of the build project (at least a 1-year commitment)  

Location: Various build site locations in the affiliate service area (currently building in Livingston in NE Calgary)  

Position Duties: 
-Works with the site supervisor on the scope of work for that day  
-Provide on the job training and supervision of 1 – 3 other construction volunteers (this could be other volunteers with less experience, homeowners working towards their 500 volunteer hours or corporate Build Day participants) 
-Assist with hands on work  
-Responsible for the correct and safe use of tools and materials within your crew 
-Pace construction volunteers 
-Always ensure a fun and safe environment on site  
-Maintain high quality of builds  

Qualifications and Skills: 
-Understanding of the Habitat for Humanity philosophy and the desire to promote it 
-Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with HFHSA staff members and volunteers alike 
-Understanding of cultural differences and ability to work with language barriers 
-Tool and construction experience, this could range from carried out in your own home renos or professional construction experience  
-Ability to oversee and work with a  SMALL (1 - 3) team of volunteers 
-Ability to work in a group setting with a positive temperament  
-Able to have patience to teach others when needed  
-An understanding of the construction process 
-The willingness to learn and teach 
-Ability to lift a min. of 25 lbs. 

 Orientation and Training:  HFHSA Volunteer Orientation, additional safety training,  valid Standard First Aid certification is highly encouraged 

Working Conditions: Various build site locations, working indoors and outdoors depending on build stage and task
Certification or Education Required
Tool and construction experience, this could range from carried out in your own home renos or professional construction experience
