Ongoing
[16+] Ice Rink Maintenance Volunteers play an essential role in keeping the Discovery Ridge Community ice rink safe, welcoming, and enjoyable for all residents. These volunteers help support seasonal rink operations by assisting with routine upkeep, monitoring conditions, and ensuring the space remains family-friendly throughout the winter months. Key responsibilities include helping with snow removal from the rink surface, clearing surrounding walkways, and supporting the flooding and resurfacing process as needed. Volunteers may assist with setting up and maintaining rink boards, nets, signage, and lighting checks. Regular inspections are encouraged to identify any hazards—such as uneven ice, debris, or weather-related issues—and communicate them promptly to the Volunteer Coordinator or facility lead. Volunteers also contribute to fostering a positive community environment by promoting safe rink use, offering guidance to skaters when appropriate, and reporting any misuse or concerns. While no prior experience is required, volunteers should be comfortable working outdoors in winter conditions, able to perform moderate physical tasks, and willing to collaborate with others during scheduled maintenance sessions. This role directly supports community recreation, helping families and neighbours enjoy a high-quality rink all season long.
