Splash Time Aqua Therapy Program with Cerebral Palsy Alberta

Saturdays from May 11-June 25 at 1:15PM-2:45PM.

Overview 
Splash Time is designed to provide aquatic therapy under the direction of an aqua therapist with the support of volunteers. The program will be hosted at a warm water pool to increase the benefits of aqua therapy. This program is for children with disabilities ages 2 to 12.

Responsibilities as an assistant to the Therapist.
•	The program is presently “6” weeks long. Some sessions may be as much as 10 weeks and your attendance to all classes is greatly appreciated.
•	Training on how to work with the child is provided by a qualified therapist.
•	You will be assigned a child who may be your partner for the entire session or in some instances, other children may be assigned to you throughout the program. 
•	You will assist the therapist in making the child’s experience memorable.
•	Help setting up and take down of equipment.
•	Be playful and engaged. 
•	Ask the instructor  for assistance when in doubt.  
Time Commitment and location
•	Programs are 6-10 weeks, 1.0 to 1.5 hr sessions. Saturdays at Don Wheaton YMCA, 10211-102 Avenue, Edmonton, 1:30 - 2:30 pm
•	Availability on weekends is required. 

Requirements
•	Must be 18 years-old or older. 
•	Swimming experience an asset.
•	Be in good physical condition as you will need to support the child.
•	Excellent communication skills required.
•	Be committed and have excellent time keeping.
•	Be aware of on-site Health & Safety requirements.
•	Inform us of any health issues or conditions that may effect your work and/or the child’s health.
•	Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and clear Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector check. (See below)

Working Conditions
•	Be working in a heated pool.
•	Be aware of standing water around the pool to avoid any slips, falls and injuries. 
•	Be aware of your surroundings in the pool since you will be working in close quarters to other volunteers and children.

Screening
•	Resume if available, 2 references, signed volunteer and confidentiality agreements, policies, and waiver forms, all part of our in-house application form.
•	Interview where applicable.
•	Criminal Reference check including Vulnerable Sector Check is mandatory (cost is covered)
Every volunteer needs to file an ONLINE application with the police service which comprises of a police check and vulnerable sector check.(both part of the same application).
