Virtual Tutor – CNIB

Location: Virtual Time Commitment: 1 hour per week | 6–12 month commitment About the Role Are you passionate about helping young learners succeed? CNIB is seeking Virtual Tutors to support students ages 6–18 who are blind or partially sighted. Volunteers will provide one-on-one tutoring in core subjects such as Math, Science, and Literacy (reading and writing), helping students strengthen their academic skills and build confidence. What You’ll Do Provide subject-specific tutoring based on the Alberta curriculum. Adapt learning strategies to meet the unique needs of students with sight loss. Support students in building confidence, study skills, and academic independence. Communicate professionally and only during scheduled tutoring sessions. Conduct sessions in a private setting to maintain confidentiality. Notify participants in advance if sessions need to be rescheduled. What You Bring Strong knowledge in one or more subjects: Math, Science, or Literacy (reading/writing). Experience or comfort working with children and youth. Patience, empathy, and the ability to explain concepts clearly. Tutoring, mentoring, or teaching experience (an asset, not required). Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Commitment Sessions: Once per week, 30–60 minutes. Schedule: Flexible (after school, before 8:00 PM). Duration: 6–12 months, with potential to continue longer.
