Are you patient, understanding, and looking for a meaningful way to support someone in your community? Join CNIB’s Vision Mate program and help make daily life more accessible and engaging for someone who is blind or partially sighted and who may also experience challenges with independent task initiation or communication. We’re currently looking for a calm, compassionate volunteer to support a CNIB participant who: Is diagnosed as autistic. Learns best through tactile, hands-on interaction. Understands much of what’s going on, but has difficulty starting activities or navigating tasks alone. Would benefit from a consistent, one-on-one connection to build confidence and independence This person may need help with: Daily routines or activities at home Engaging in simple crafts, games, or tactile learning experiences Exploring interests with gentle support and encouragement Making connections with the outside world like going on walks, shopping, or trying new experiences This volunteer role is ideal for someone who: Is naturally patient, empathetic, and observant Has an interest in neurodiversity, tactile learning, or adaptive communication Feels comfortable offering gentle encouragement and structure Can commit to 2 hours a week at a consistent time As a Vision Mate, you’ll: Provide reliable, friendly companionship Help initiate and guide shared activities Be a positive presence who helps someone feel safe, seen, and included You don’t need experience in disability support just a big heart and a willingness to learn. CNIB provides training and ongoing support.
