Summer Day Camp for Immigrant Youth
SUMMER CAMP VOLUNTEER Volunteers for our various summer camps will develop leadership skills while supporting youth in dynamic and interactive summer day camps. Volunteers contribute in sustaining a safe and fun environment that fosters friendships and builds self-esteem in young immigrant girls. In addition, volunteers will be a part of making lifelong memories for youth, attend field trips, explore Calgary, and more. SUMMARY OF POSITION Volunteers will support CIWA staff and clients for summer day camp(s) in a variety of activities such as; indoor and outdoor games, breakout sessions, crafts, field trips, and more. Camp activities, ages of youth, and location will change according to the various camps. Ages vary from 10-24 pending on the program needs. Camps run weekday, daytimes in July and August generally between the hours of 10:00am-4:00pm. DUTIES AND STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE • Attend all trainings as necessary • Interact and engage with youth at all times • Provide leadership, co-facilitate, and/or promote youth participation • Help with set up and clean up • Supervise youth to ensure their safety • Willing to be outdoors for the whole day • Must be a committed volunteer all for the entire summer camp • Demonstrate a high level of initiative and enthusiasm • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times • Follow instructions provided by CIWA staff QUALIFICATIONS • Be able to work with youth of diverse backgrounds • Experience working with youth is an asset but not mandatory • Volunteers should be warm, friendly, patient, engaged, flexible and enthusiastic • Awareness and sensitivity toward immigrant youth needs and concerns • Strong communication skills • First aid appreciated but not required
