Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society

Wild animals are hurt or killed every day in and around our city. The Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society (Calgary Wildlife) rehabilitates wildlife injured or orphaned by interactions with our human world such as getting caught in barbed wire, electrocuted on power lines, attacked by pets, hit by cars or sickened by garbage. We believe every life is valuable and offer a second chance for these helpless animals by providing appropriate veterinary and rehabilitative care until they are ready to be returned to the wild or, if there is no other option, a humane way to pass on. Calgary Wildlife also endeavors to improve our relationship with wildlife by raising awareness through education and outreach.
Founded in 1993, Calgary Wildlife was established to address the city’s growing need for a professional wildlife
rehabilitation facility. Practicing the three R’s of wildlife management - rescue, rehabilitate, and release - we
receive over 2,400 patients and respond to over 5000 wildlife-related calls from the public annually. CWRS is
the only wildlife rehabilitation service within the City of Calgary.
Calgary Wildlife provides over 200+ engaging wildlife education programs every year to schools, seniors’
residences, and community groups to address conservation issues and provide valuable
information about native wildlife. These education sessions give people the knowledge
they need to properly and safely interact with both healthy and injured wildlife.
Calgary is a city rich with biodiversity and natural spaces. The animals that live in these spaces enrich the lives of every Calgarian. The need for wildlife rehabilitation is growing as the city expands and wildlife-human interactions increase. Calgary Wildlife believes our community has a responsibility to care for and protect the over 400 species of wild animals that also call
this city and the surrounding area home.
