• The LIP model believes settlement is a two-way street; it promotes what newcomers bring to Canada, but also looks at what Canada needs to offer newcomers. The success of Canadian communities depends upon newcomers settling into communities in a timely and healthy manner.
• Local Immigration Partnerships (LIPs) are multi-sector partnerships that are designed to help improve the integration of immigrants and strengthen the city’s ability to better integrate and address the needs of newcomers.
• The Calgary Local immigration Partnership (CLIP) is one of 70 LIPs across the country.
• A preliminary framework and outputs for all LIPs are determined by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
• LIPs are conveners. We host engagement opportunities for community members, agencies, private sector representatives and others who want to contribute actions towards a local settlement strategy.
• CLIP has a local partnership council that is made up of high-level executives from sectors across Calgary, including government, and they are responsible for developing the strategy of CLIP.
• CLIP solicits input from an Immigrant Advisory Table made up of immigrants from various countries, immigration periods, immigration classes and age groups.
• CLIP also convenes local working groups to hear from subject matter experts.
• CLIP does not provide direct services to clients. We work at policy and system-levels.
