Opening Minds through Art - Art Therapy with Seniors
Bethany Riverview (SE) is looking for anyone 15 years and older who enjoys connecting and interacting with seniors. The OMA program is a facilitated, evidence-based, intergenerational art program for people living with dementia. Each volunteer is paired with one resident, who is the artist, to create beautiful pieces of abstract art. NO experience or talent is required. The program's goal is to build bridges across age and cognitive barriers through art. Support and guidance are provided by the program facilitators.
Additional Details & Skills Required
The first day will be a mandatory 2 hour Opening Minds through Art and Dementia training for the volunteers for a better understanding of the program and overview of dementia.
Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
You will enhance your observational, communication and interpersonal skills while engaging with the seniors and staff. It is the perfect opportunity for individuals who enjoy interacting with others, people with an interest in art therapy, those looking for intergenerational experiences, or for anyone with a desire and compassion to help others in their community. It is a limited time program on Thursdays from 10:00AM - 11:30AM starting July 3rd until August 28th, 2025.
