Recreation Group Volunteer - Support Brain Injury Survivors

311 Cedar Crescent SW, Calgary, AB, T3C 3A4 [map]
1-3 hours / weekly
4 Months minimum
ARBI’s Adaptive Recreation Program offers a variety of group activities designed to support brain injury and stroke survivors in building skills, staying active, connecting with others, and working towards their individual goals. ARBI was founded by volunteers and has a long and proud history of engaging volunteers to help give brain injury survivors the best life possible. Group volunteers work alongside our Community Programs Coordinator to support clients in small group activities and provide encouragement and hands-on assistance as clients participate in their programs.

Adaptive Recreation programs include culinary, art, health and fitness (walking group, seated exercise, standing exercise), and horticulture (seasonal). Volunteers will interact directly with clients, socialize with clients, encourage group conversation, and provide hands-on support as needed during programs. PS. no experience required, we will train you!

This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to build experience working with people with disabilities, students interested in therapeutic recreation, rehabilitation sciences, health care, or related fields, or anyone who enjoys connecting with others and being part of a community. You must bring a positive attitude, have strong interpersonal skills, be willing to take direction and learn new things, and be comfortable supporting clients with a variety of needs.

Volunteers are assigned to a recurring weekly recreation program at a consistent time for a four-month term. Standard shifts are approximately 1.5 hours, Monday to Friday between 9:45 am and 3:00 pm.

We are currently looking for volunteers who are able to start the week of September 28, 2026.
