1 year term, with option for renewal
The Arusha Centre works only in Calgary to build community around local economics, environmental action, and community action. Board meetings are 1.5 hrs long, 10 times per year (no meetings Dec and Aug) on the 2nd Wed of the month at 6:30pm and take place at our Beltline office.
Arusha is home to the Calgary Dollars complementary currency system to create new wealth, Take Action Grants which has awarded funds to 170 grassroots projects, Repair Exchanges that connect neighbours to fix fabric, electrical and home items, and fun public environmental events.
Additional Details & Skills Required
The Board of Directors for the Arusha Centre is an governance board, not working on day to day issues, but giving direction overall and participating in programs when possible. The Arusha Centre strives to be non-hierarchical, uses consensus, and shares the duties of meeting facilitation, minute-taking, and committee participation. Executive positions are required, ad hoc, for formal functions.
Certification or Education Required
We are seeking Board members with demonstrated commitment to social and environmental justice and that want to work on issues in Calgary.
