Come Join our Team!!

Alberta Health Services (AHS) has over 14,500 dedicated volunteers helping to meet the mission, values and strategies of AHS. But we are always growing and continually looking for those wanting to share their time and skills.

To us, volunteers are more than numbers. Volunteers support so many areas of AHS’s work – in our facilities, at our planning tables and in our communities. Volunteers are in our acute care hospitals, in our rehabilitation hospitals, in our home care programs, in cancer care, in mental health and addictions, in pediatric care, in continuing care and in public health programs.

All of our volunteer roles share a commitment to improving the quality of the patient and family experience.

Volunteers are:
•way-finders who help guide patients and families around our busy facilities,
•friendly visitors who spend time with our socially isolated patients,
•patient and family advisors who provide input and direction to AHS on numerous committees,
•supporters of our volunteer retail operations - where the proceeds are returned to AHS to provide patient care and comfort.

If you are interested in volunteering with AHS, please scroll through the list of sites on the right hand side. There is contact information and / or a link to our online volunteer application portal on each site’s page.

Volunteer Resources (VR) will review your volunteer application. If there are any openings, VR may contact you to set up a meeting. You will meet with VR to talk about your skills, interests, and availability, as well as learn about location guidelines. Based on this meeting, a volunteer role that works for us both is arranged.

As part of our program, AHS requires that a security check be completed prior to placement. This can take several weeks. Baseline health screening may also be required for those volunteers in patient care locations. All volunteers will be given an organization, facility and a department-specific orientation, when they begin their placement. All volunteers with AHS are asked to sign a confidentiality agreement to protect those in our care.
