Veterinary Hospital Volunteer - AARCS
Support Animal Care at the Heart of Our Rescue Every animal that comes through AARCS receives compassionate, high-quality veterinary care before finding their forever home. As a Veterinary Hospital Volunteer, you'll work alongside our veterinary team to provide essential behind-the-scenes support that helps keep our hospital running smoothly. Whether you're assisting with surgery preparation, patient recovery, or daily hospital operations, every shift directly contributes to the health and wellbeing of animals in need. This is a rewarding opportunity for volunteers interested in animal care, veterinary medicine, or simply making a meaningful difference for vulnerable animals. Volunteer Opportunities Our Veterinary Hospital is made up of several volunteer roles that support different areas of patient care and hospital operations. Depending on the hospital's needs and your training, you may volunteer in one or more of the following positions: Autoclave Assistant: Sterilize, package, and prepare surgical instruments and equipment to ensure they are ready for procedures. - Physical Exam Assistant: Support veterinary staff during patient examinations by preparing exam rooms, handling supplies, assisting with patient flow, and helping create a calm experience for animals. - Surgical Prep Assistant: Prepare patients, surgical suites, and equipment prior to surgery while supporting the veterinary team with pre-operative tasks. - Recovery Assistant: Monitor patients recovering from anesthesia, provide comfort and observation, and assist veterinary staff in ensuring a safe recovery. - General Hospital Support: Assist with cleaning, disinfecting, stocking supplies, organizing treatment areas, laundry, and other tasks that help keep the hospital running efficiently. What You'll Do - Working alongside veterinary staff and fellow volunteers, you will: - Support the daily operations of the Veterinary Hospital - Clean, disinfect, and maintain treatment, examination, and surgical areas - Restock medical supplies and prepare equipment - Assist with patient flow and hospital organization - Support veterinary staff with non-medical tasks as assigned - Follow all hospital safety, biosecurity, and infection control protocols - Every shift helps our veterinary team provide exceptional medical care to animals on their journey to finding loving homes. What We're Looking For We're seeking volunteers who: - Have a genuine passion for animal welfare - Are dependable, responsible, and eager to learn - Can work calmly in a fast-paced environment - Have excellent attention to detail - Can follow detailed instructions and established procedures - Work well independently and as part of a team - Are comfortable standing, bending, reaching, and moving throughout their shift - Can lift and carry supplies weighing up to 25 lbs (11 kg), with heavier lifting completed with assistance when needed Training & Support You'll receive the training and support needed to feel confident in your role, including: - New Volunteer Orientation - Veterinary Hospital orientation - Hands-on training specific to your volunteer role - Training on hospital safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures - Ongoing support from veterinary staff
