Critter Caregiver - AARCS
Help provide compassionate care for rabbits, guinea pigs, and other small animals as they wait for their forever homes. As a Critter Caregiver Volunteer, you'll help care for a variety of small companion animals, including rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, rats, mice, and other pocket pets. Your care helps ensure these animals remain healthy, comfortable, and ready for adoption. From preparing fresh food and cleaning habitats to providing enrichment and gentle handling, you'll play an important role in improving the lives of some of our smallest rescue animals. What You'll Do - Working alongside fellow volunteers during your scheduled shift, you will: - Feed rabbits, guinea pigs, and other small animals according to their individual care plans - Clean and sanitize enclosures, replace bedding, refresh food and water, and maintain litter areas as needed - Administer medications as directed (training provided) - Wash dishes, bedding, toys, and other supplies - Monitor animals for changes in health or behaviour and report concerns to staff - Follow all cleaning, disinfecting, and quarantine protocols - Provide enrichment, socialization, and gentle interaction whenever appropriate Every shift helps create a clean, safe, and enriching environment where these animals can thrive while waiting to find their forever families. What We're Looking For We're seeking compassionate, reliable volunteers who: - Have a genuine passion for animal welfare - Enjoy working as part of a supportive team - Are eager to learn and follow shelter procedures - Are comfortable working with a variety of small companion animals - Have previous experience with rabbits, guinea pigs, or other pocket pets (an asset, but not required) Training & Support You'll receive the training and support needed to feel confident in your role, including: - New Volunteer Orientation - Online Critter Caregiver Training Module - In-person group orientation and hands-on training with experienced Shift Leaders - Disinfecting Workshop (within your first six months) Ongoing guidance and support from our team
