Cat Caregiver - AARCS

Help provide comfort, care, and a safe space for cats as they wait for their forever homes.

Every cat that comes through AARCS deserves compassionate care while they prepare for adoption. As a Cat Caregiver Volunteer, you'll play a vital role in ensuring our cats are healthy, comfortable, and receiving the daily care they need.

From cleaning kennels and preparing meals to monitoring health and providing enrichment, your time and dedication will have a direct impact on the well-being of cats in our shelter.

What You'll Do
- Working alongside fellow volunteers during your scheduled shift, you will:
- Feed cats according to their individual care plans
- Clean and sanitize cat condos, litter boxes, food and water dishes, and common areas
- Wash dishes, bedding, toys, and cat laundry
- Monitor cats for changes in health or behaviour and report concerns to staff
- Follow all cleaning, disinfecting, and quarantine protocols
- Provide enrichment, socialization, and gentle interaction whenever appropriate

Every shift helps create a clean, low-stress environment where cats can thrive while waiting to find their forever families.

What We're Looking For
We're seeking compassionate, reliable volunteers who:
- Have a genuine passion for animal welfare
- Enjoy working as part of a supportive team
- Are eager to learn and follow shelter procedures
- Understand feline body language and behaviour, or are willing to learn
- Have previous experience handling cats (an asset, but not required)

Training & Support
You'll receive the training and support needed to feel confident in your role, including:
- New Volunteer Orientation
- Online Cat Caregiver Training Module
- In-person group orientation and hands-on training with experienced Shift Leaders
- Disinfecting Workshop (within your first six months)
- Ongoing guidance and support from our team
Additional Details & Skills Required
- Understanding of cat body language and communication
- Willingness to learn
- Ability to work well with others in a team environment
