Board Chair

Affinity has worked hard to establish strong processes and create stability for the business and is now ready to mobilize the talented Board and committee members.  The Chair plays a big role in shaping the future of the business, and you would be bringing that future to life with the support of an excellent team of professionals. 

Affinity needs a Chair who can engage in big-picture thinking, is a strong team player, and isn't afraid to lead a meeting. The Chair works closely with the Secretary to set agendas and preside over all Board meetings and also acts as the head of the Executive Committee. The Chair must not only talk the talk, they must walk the walk.

General Duties
•	Be fully informed on organizational matters and ensure that the Board performs a governance role that aligns with AMF’s vision, mission, and values;
•	In consultation with the Secretary, arrange all Board meetings (set time, date and location) and set all agendas (review previous meeting’s action steps to include in agenda);
•	Ensure agenda and relevant documents are e-mailed to members one week in advance of meetings;
•	Lead Board meetings, call quorum at beginning of meetings, encourage input of Directors, and facilitate discourse;
•	Make certain that both sides of a debate are discussed and heard, and facilitate the Board in reaching a consensus when necessary;
•	Ensure that all Board documents/materials are reviewed, evaluated and revised, as needed;
•	Act as one of the signing Officers for cheques and other documents;
•	Ensure appropriate committees are formed and that terms of reference are completed while also joining, participating in, or chairing committees when needed;
•	Be a role model by reviewing written materials (such as meeting minutes, Bylaws, etc.) and following through with assigned action steps; 
•	Recognize Directors’ contributions to the Board’s work;
•	Form task forces to assist them in carrying out various time-limited goals and responsibilities;
•	Take an active part in fundraising activities.

There is a learning curve associated with this position as you get to know the organization, the people involved, and the work to be done. Given that the Board invests in the new person who takes this role by offering training and mentorship, we ask that you make an investment in Affinity by fulfilling a three year term.
