The Ability Workshop Society has an opening for a Shop Foreman for a mechanical shop. We are a totally volunteer run charity that designs/adapts and creates custom unique equipment for those living with a disability. We also repair assistive technology devices, adapted toys and equipment. We receive 130 requests each year. Our mechanical workshop is 2000 sq ft and located in Inglewood in Calgary. It is currently open on Tuesday and Saturday mornings. The Shop Foreman along with The Safety Officer oversee the workshop on those days. Key Responsibilities • Assign work to volunteers as required, monitor progress, troubleshoot issues, and ensure timely completion. • Inspect completed work, diagnose complex problems, and ensure high standards of work. • Enforce safety regulations, maintain a safe environment, and ensure proper equipment operation along side of the Safety Officer. • Oversee parts inventory, order supplies, and ensure tools and machinery are maintained and available.
Additional Details & Skills Required
Mentoring with current shop foreman. Work along side the Workshop Safety Officer
Certification or Education Required
• Deep knowledge of mechanical systems, diagnostics, and repairs. • Ability to guide, mentor, and manage a volunteer technical team effectively. • Quick, decisive action for unexpected issues. Problem Solver. • Clear communication with volunteers. • Excellent time management and ability to manage multiple priorities.
