The Ability Workshop Society (AWS) is a totally volunteer run charity that designs/adapts and creates custom equipment for those living with a disability. The Ability Workshop Society has an opening for a Volunteer Machinist for our workshop. The machine workshop is 2000 sq ft and located in Inglewood in Calgary. This is a part time position as is on a need-by-need basis depending on projects requested. Responsibilities • Set up and operate manual (lathes, mills, grinders) to cut, shape, or modify metal, plastic, or other materials to precise specs. • Inspect parts for accuracy using precision measuring tools, check for conformity, and make necessary corrections or adjustments. • Perform routine maintenance, keep work areas clean, and contribute to overall shop safety along with The Safety Officer. • Work with teams, promote safety, and potentially instruct others on tool usage or machining practices.
Additional Details & Skills Required
Workshop Safety Training. Mentoring by Shop Foreman. First Aid training provided if desired (not mandatory) Have first aiders in place,
Certification or Education Required
• Significant machine shop experience, operating various machine tools – lathes, mills, grinders • Strong mechanical, technical, and analytical skills; ability to work independently. • Understanding of technical designs, safety standards, and material properties. • Self-directed, detail-oriented, good communication skills, passion for machining.
