Treasurer

PROFILE
Serve as a knowledge centre in the areas of board governance.
•	Assist with setting direction and maintaining policies and targets for leadership. 
•	Serve on a committee.
•	Attend monthly board meetings.
•	Understand and support the organization’s mission, vision, current priorities, 
        programs/services, and ensure the organization reflects the clients/community it serves.
•	Support the governance model.  
•	Support the Executive Director of the organization.
•	Ensures financial and nonfinancial risks are mitigated.
•	Ensure the organization has sufficient resources to carry out its mission.
•	Review comprehensive financial reports, program updates, performance, organizational 
        priority, and other checklist items on a periodic basis (Monthly, quarterly, annually).
•	Exercise due diligence.
 

TERM
•	The Treasurer is appointed for a one-year term.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
During board/committee meetings;
•	Oversee the accounting records, including books of account, necessary to comply with 
        the Societies Act, and 
•	Render financial statements to the directors, members and others when required.
•	Act as the Chairperson of the Finance Committee. 
•	Review the monthly Financial Statements with the Executive Director.  
•	Present the quarterly Financial Reports to the Board. 
•	Report to the Board include the Expenditures to date in relation to the budget, Revenue to 
        date in relation to the budget, Reasons for variances. 
•	Provide recommendation to the Board, the organization’s annual budget, any extra budget 
        expenditure, any extraordinary funding, funding shortages and changing financial needs. 
•	Ensure proper financial controls are in place to safeguard the financial assets of the Society.
•	Ensure proper accounting policies exist to enable accurate reporting of monthly financial 
         information. 
•	Meet with the auditors each year to review the audited financial statements to ensure that 
        adequate internal audit procedures exist, including performing an independent external 
        audit as recommended by committee. 
•	Supervise Loans, grant and investment portfolios.
•	Provides recommendations to the Board on annual – three-year financial development 
         plans.
•	Attend all board meetings,
•	Assists the Board President in all of their duties, where required and appropriate.
•	Provides support in strategic planning and goal setting for CHSBC.
•	Helps guide and mediate Board actions with respect to organizational priorities and 
        governance concerns.
•	Serves on the CHSBC Executive committee in ensuring that the Board has the competence 
        and skills necessary to fulfill its role, including recruitment of Board members, selection of 
        Committee chairs and succession planning.
•	Carries out special assignments as requested by the Board President.
•	Participates as a vital part of the Board leadership.
•	Promotes the organization in the community.
•	Reviews Board minutes.
