Doula Coordinator Volunteer

Volunteer will work together with staff to connect perinatal clients to free community doula services. This role will provide support to Pre & Post Natal program staff and advocacy to POPs clients, dealing with issues of substance abuse, addictions, isolation, low income, single parenting, mental health, and more to improve positive birth outcomes. Volunteer will assist program staff in reaching out to graduating or recently graduated doulas from Douglas College to arrange a minimum of 1 prenatal, 2 postnatal visits to clients in need. Role also includes administrative duties in connecting clients to doulas, communicating doulas' schedules to clients and staff, maintaining resource list of available doulas, and other tasks as needed. Utilizes a nonjudgmental environment and ability to work confidently, work independently within a team setting with a good organization, time and self-management; and knowledge of risk assessment and priority management skills to create a comfortable atmosphere and establish trusting relationships. Schedule & Location Remote, 1-2 hours, 3 days per week. In person if needed at Edmonds Neighborhood Resources Centre (7355 Canada Way, Burnaby) Skills and Experience: • Experience working with working with maternal or postnatal women is an asset • Comfortable communicating over email • Public health, doula, and nursing students preferred • First Aid preferred • Reliable and committed Other requirements: • Good reference checks letter • Successful completion of criminal record check • 19 years and up • Minimum commitment of 2-3 months for 1 shift (2.5-3 hour) per week on a consistent day. Exceptions may apply.
