Walk to the Lighthouse

Burlington, ON [map]
1-10 hours
-
Walk to the Lighthouse takes place on Sunday September 21, 2025. We are raising much needed funds for the redevelopment of Mental Health Services at Joseph Brant Hospital. We need student volunteers to help in various ways over the summer and on the day of the Walk.

1.	Flyer Distribution – beginning in August, we need flyers brought to businesses to let them know about the walk and ask if they could put a flyer up to advertise the event to the community or their staff (in staffroom). We will attempt to assign areas that are convenient for you.

2.	Community Events – We have several community events over the summer (ex: Ribfest, Food Truck Festival) where we need help to staff our Walk to the Lighthouse table to sell merchandise and promote the walk.

2.	Promoting Walk at your school – We want volunteers to find creative ways to encourage participation – announcements, TikTok, friendly rivalry with other schools, competitions to put teams together to raise the most money or put together the largest walking team. We want to see schools out on the day of the walk in their spirit wear representing their school.

3.	Promoting Walk through your organized sports/activities – We want hockey teams, soccer teams, dance clubs, theatre groups to come out on the day of the walk and represent their organization. We need students to bring this event to their teams and activities in the community to promote the Walk.

4.	Day of the Walk – We need volunteers to line the walk route, hold signs and encourage walkers. They will also be on alert for any problems along the course and alert an organizer if there is an issue that needs attention.

5.	Day of the Walk – We need volunteers in various areas to help set up and ensure the event runs smoothly (refreshment area, turn around point, parking lot, information table, Kid Zone etc.…).

6.	Day of the Walk – We will need help with set up of tables, chairs, tents before event (8am-12pm) and/or the tear down after the event ends (3:30-5pm). Volunteers can stay for the whole event or commit to set up or clean up.

Volunteer hours will be given for any of the above. We will sign off on your forms required for hours.

Laurie Stancovici is coordinating the volunteers. Please email her directly at lstancovici@josephbranthospital.ca
and include what volunteer opportunity you are interested in helping us out with. We will do our best to assign you to your area of choice.
We have no budget for the walk and rely on word of mouth and social media. We are counting on student volunteers to help make this event successful!

Thank you so much for your interest in supporting our Walk and offering to help in any way you can!
Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
A fun and valuable opportunity to add to your necessary Volunteer Hours at High School. You will be helping to raise awareness of the great need for improved Mental Health Services at Joseph Brant Hospital
