Volunteering Opportunities - Walk to the Lighthouse for Mental Health and Addiction

Burlington, ON [map]
Ongoing
Hello
Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the Walk to the Lighthouse in support of Mental Health and Addiction Services at Joseph Brant. The Walk will be on Sunday, September 27, 2026, with pre-activities starting at 12:30pm in the JBH parking lot. We have many volunteer opportunities:
1. Flyer Distribution – In the weeks leading up to the walk we need flyers brought to businesses & for volunteers to let them know about the walk & what it is for. We ask that you encourage participation & ask if they could put a flyer up in their place of business, to advertise the event to the community or their staff (in staffroom) if their policy is to not to put it in the window or at their cash checkout. We will attempt to assign areas that are convenient for you.
2. Promoting Walk at your school – We want volunteers to find creative ways to encourage participation – announcements, TikTok, friendly rivalry with other schools, competitions to put teams together to raise the most money or put together the largest walking team. We want to see schools out on the day of the walk in their spirit wear representing their school.
3. Promoting Walk through your organized sports/activities – We want hockey teams, soccer teams, dance clubs, theatre groups to come out on the day of the walk and represent their organization. We need students to bring this event to their teams and activities in the community to promote the Walk.
4. Promoting Walk at Pop Up Events – We want volunteers to attend local spring and summer events including but not limited to various festivals, garage sales, etc., to promote the walk and sell merchandise at the table we have set up
5. Day of the Walk – We need volunteers to:
•	Line the walk route, hold signs and encourage walkers. They will also be on alert for any problems along the course and alert an organizer if there is an issue that needs attention (i.e., a medical issue with a participant).
•	Help in different areas and ensure the event runs smoothly (refreshment area, turn around point, parking lot, information table, Kid Zone etc.). Specific assignments will be given to volunteers as needed on the day of the event.
•	Set up of tables, chairs, tents before event (8am-12pm) and/or clean up after the event ends (3:30-5pm). Volunteers can stay for the whole event or commit to set up or clean up.
Volunteer hours will be given for any of the above. We will sign off on your forms required for hours.
