Sound of Music Festival

The Sound of Music Festival in Burlington, Ontario, was founded in 1980, by Laurie Branch, who served as the City of Burlington Parks and Recreation Director for 20 years. The roots of Sound of Music trace back to the Burlington Teen Tour Band, a renowned organization in the city, for its support and fostering of musicianship for youth in the community.
The Grande Festival Parade evolved into a festival showcasing local talent and today operates as Canada’s largest free outdoor music festival. Attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors annually, the festival was established to promote live music, arts, and cultural engagement while providing a platform for both emerging and established artists.
Held every June at Spencer Smith Park, the festival features multiple stages with diverse musical acts spanning rock, pop, country, and indie. Over the years, it has hosted major artists like Our Lady Peace, The Glorious Sons, Walk Off The Earth, Finger Eleven, The Trews, and Big Wreck. The event also includes a parade, family activities, food vendors, and beer gardens, enhancing the experience.
Remaining a volunteer-driven, nonprofit event, its mission is to bring people together through music, support artists, and boost local tourism and business.
