Event Greening Ambassadors at Burlington Canada Day Festival
Have fun outside helping attendees at Burlington's huge Canada Day event get their waste into the correct containers. As part of our Event Greening Ambassadors team, you'll have a big impact taking action and raising awareness about composting, recycling and reducing GHGs (Greenhouse gasses) by keeping compostables out of landfill. We need a LOT of volunteers to help out at Spencer Smith Park beside the lake during three shifts between 11:00 am and 11:30 pm. Outdoor event: Rain or shine, dress for the weather. We ask volunteers to commit to attend. Tasks may include: Site set up or take down; welcome community members; limited waste handling (gloves provided), moving waste containers; help ensure a pleasant experience for members of the public, serve as friendly BurlingtonGreen Ambassador; other tasks as needed. Accommodations: Standing for periods of time (okay to bring a folding chair if needed). BG highly values inclusion and accessibility in all we do; please let us know of your accommodation needs (email volunteer@burlingtongreen.org or call 905 975 5563) Eligible for high school volunteer hours. Spencer Smith Park is on transit routes and has places for you to lock up a bicycle. There will also be a free shuttle from the Burlington Centre parking lot. Volunteers under age 14 must be accompanied by and under direct supervision of a responsible adult. You can sign up for a shift now at https://forms.gle/BttTvg13Dbt7xEVT9 Volunteer groups are welcome. Please contact volunteer@burlingtongreen.org or call 905 975 5563 for more information. Join the fun!
Additional Details & Skills Required
Prior to participating, new volunteers will need to 1) complete an online waiver and release, 2) read a short online Accessible Customer Service Handbook, 3) review our short Event Greening Ambassadors guide and 4) watch our 40 minute training video with helpful tips. Training is eligible for one hour of volunteer time. Additional training during your shift.
Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
You'll receive training in how to engage with festival-goers to help them sort their waste such as cups, plates, cutlery, etc. You'll learn what is recyclable and compostable in Halton Region. Volunteers consistently tell us that they have fun, while spending a few hours outdoors with fellow volunteers and BG leaders, helping to make a meaningful difference for the planet locally. You'll gain hands-on experience in how an effective event greening service is organized and delivered.
