PR Coordinator - STEM INNOVATION PROGRAM - Volunteer Role

STEM Canada is a registered not-for-profit global program that specializes in an advanced, bar-none STEM-based educational curriculum that emphasizes the interconnected subject areas of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). The STEM program is open to all students from preschool to high school with the mission to deliver top-notch STEM literacy and application, designed to teach students in the STEM fields, yielding globally competitive results.

Job Description: 
As the Volunteer PR Coordinator, you will support the PR Manager in implementing strategic communication plans to promote STEM Canada's mission, programs, and initiatives. You will assist with media relations, content creation, social media management, and event support to enhance our organization's visibility and engagement with key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
·       Media Relations Assistance: Assist with media outreach efforts, including researching media contacts, drafting press releases, and pitching stories to journalists and bloggers to secure coverage of STEM Canada's activities and initiatives.
·       Content Creation: Support the creation of compelling content for press releases, blog posts, articles, social media posts, and other communication channels to highlight STEM Canada's programs, success stories, and impact.
·       Social Media Management: Help manage STEM Canada's social media accounts, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram, by scheduling posts, responding to comments, and tracking engagement metrics.
·       Event Support: Provide PR support for STEM Canada's events, including media coordination, onsite support, and post-event coverage, to maximize visibility and media exposure.
·       Storytelling: Assist in identifying and developing engaging stories and case studies that showcase the impact of STEM education on students, educators, and communities, for use in PR materials and outreach efforts.
·       Partnership Promotion: Support collaboration with partners, sponsors, and stakeholders to leverage their networks and platforms for PR opportunities, cross-promotion, and joint campaigns.
·       Crisis Communication: Assist in the development and implementation of crisis communication plans and protocols to effectively manage and mitigate reputational risks and issues.
·       Performance Tracking: Help monitor and analyze PR metrics, including media coverage, website traffic, and social media engagement, to evaluate the effectiveness of PR efforts and inform future strategies.
·       Administrative Support: Provide general administrative support to the PR Manager, including scheduling meetings, maintaining contact lists, and organizing PR materials and resources.

Requirements:
·       Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
·       Previous experience or coursework in PR, media relations, communications, or marketing is desirable.
·       Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft clear and compelling messages for diverse audiences.
·       Proficiency in digital communication tools and platforms, including social media management tools, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace.
·       Attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
·       Creativity and initiative in contributing ideas and solutions to PR campaigns and initiatives.

Other Information:
The volunteer requirement for this program is a commitment of at least 2-4 hours per week beginning from April 2 - 15 and will last until June 30, 2024. We have a lot of exciting opportunities including team leadership, management, supervisory, and VP positions 

*Please note, that you must be available for the next 3 months if you commit to a position listed above. All volunteers on board for this project must be available to attend weekly team meetings on any ONE of the following days: 
- Thursday evenings 8 pm Eastern - 40 - 60 minutes, OR
 - Sunday evenings 8 pm Eastern - 40 - 60 minutes, OR
 - Wednesday noon Eastern - 40 - 60 minutes
