Volunteer Ambassadors (Newcomer-Focused Role) in Burlington
✨POSITION SUMMARY Volunteer Ambassadors help newcomers and residents feel connected to their community by sharing information about local volunteer opportunities and community services across Halton Region. THIS ROLE IS IDEAL FOR NEWCOMERS TO CANADA/HALTON REGION WHO WANT TO: • Build professional and social networks • Practice communication and customer service skills • Learn more about the local job market and community resources • Volunteers will represent Volunteer Halton at community events and help others explore meaningful ways to get involved. WHY THIS ROLE IS IDEAL FOR NEWCOMERS • Gain local experience for your resume • Build confidence speaking with others in a professional setting • Practice English communication and customer service skills • Meet new people and grow your professional network • Learn about local organizations, services, and opportunities • Volunteer in a supportive team environment (always in pairs) • Receive letters of reference after completing 3 events • Access free training and learning opportunities TIME COMMITMENT • 6-month commitment • One community event per month • Approximately 30 total hours, plus training LOCATION • Community events across Halton Region: • Burlington, Oakville, Milton, Halton Hills • We aim to place volunteers close to where they live KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Represent Volunteer Halton at community events • Welcome and engage with residents in a friendly, professional manner • Share information about volunteer opportunities and community services • Help individuals explore volunteer roles that match their interests and skills • Distribute materials and use conversation tools to connect with the public • Work closely with another Volunteer Ambassador (team-based role) • Arrive on time, be prepared, and act professionally • Follow organizational policies and ask staff for support when needed QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS • Comfortable speaking with people from diverse backgrounds • Good or developing communication skills (English required; other languages are an asset) • Interest in community involvement and helping others • Reliable, organized, and willing to learn • Customer-service mindset (friendly, approachable, helpful) • Basic comfort using online tools (training provided) • Available for weekday daytime and/or evening events IMPORTANT NOTES • Volunteer Ambassadors provide information and guidance but do not guarantee volunteer placement • Training and staff support are provided TRAINING & SUPPORT • Mandatory training before starting: • Online modules (~3 hours) • In-person training (~2.5 hours) • First event completed alongside staff • Ongoing coaching and support after each event • Safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment
