Volunteer Ambassadors (Ideal for Retirees: 55+) in Milton
✨POSITION SUMMARY Volunteer Ambassadors help strengthen the community by welcoming residents, sharing information about volunteer opportunities, and encouraging meaningful civic engagement across Halton Region. This role is well suited for retirees who enjoy staying active, social, and involved while giving back in a flexible way ________________________________________ Why Retirees Enjoy This Role •Stay socially connected and engaged in your community •Share your knowledge, experience, and people skills in a meaningful way •Volunteer alongside others—Ambassadors work in pairs •Flexible commitment with manageable time expectations •Ongoing learning opportunities and strong staff support •A sense of purpose without long-term or physically demanding commitments ________________________________________ Time Commitment • 6-month commitment •One community event per month •Approximately 30 total hours, plus training time ________________________________________ Location •Community events throughout Halton Region •Events in Burlington, Oakville, Milton, and/or Halton Hills •Every effort is made to place volunteers in or near their local community ________________________________________ Key Responsibilities •Promote volunteerism and local volunteer opportunities •Represent Volunteer Halton at community events •Distribute information about Volunteer Halton and its member organizations •Support residents by helping them explore suitable volunteer options •Use engaging materials to start friendly, informative conversations •Arrive on time and behave professionally •Follow all organizational policies and procedures •Seek guidance from Volunteer Halton/CDH staff when needed ________________________________________ Qualifications & Skills •Minimum 55 years of age •Strong verbal and written communication skills •Available for weekday daytime and/or weekday evening shifts •Comfortable using online tools, including the Volunteer Connector (www.volunteerconnector.org) •Comfortable engaging people from diverse backgrounds with dignity and respect •Languages other than English are an asset •Organized, reliable, and able to manage questions effectively •Customer service mindset and a friendly, approachable manner ________________________________________ Important Boundaries •Volunteer Ambassadors do not guarantee placement in volunteer roles •Personal experiences should not negatively influence how opportunities are shared ________________________________________ Training & Support •Mandatory training before volunteering •Online training modules (~3 hours) •In-person training (~2.5 hours) •First community event is completed alongside a CDH staff member •Ongoing staff support and regular post-event debriefs ________________________________________ Supervision & Support •Volunteers report to Volunteer Halton / Community Development Halton staff •Open door communication encouraged for questions or concerns •Regular feedback and supportive debriefs following events ________________________________________ Risk Level •Low – Providing information to community members ________________________________________ Screening Requirements •Volunteer application •Interview •Reference checks •Orientation and mandatory training, including a shadow shift
