The Mount Pleasant Better at Home Friendly Visiting Program, addresses the pressing issue of social isolation among elderly individuals. Volunteers in this program play a crucial role by offering emotional support and companionship to seniors who may be experiencing or at risk of social isolation. The primary objective is to enhance the quality of life for seniors in the Mount Pleasant area and assist them in maintaining independence by fostering community connections and reducing social isolation.

Through the Friendly Visiting Program, isolated or lonely seniors are paired with volunteer visitors who commit to regular in-home visits, typically on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. During these visits, volunteers either engage with seniors in person or over phone. These interactions serve as opportunities for meaningful connection and support, aiming to combat the detrimental effects of social isolation on seniors' social and emotional well-being.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Regularly visit seniors at their homes or by phone as scheduled.
- Offer a supportive and attentive presence.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Notify the Program Coordinator if unable to attend a scheduled visit.
- Immediately report any incidents or emergencies.
- Maintain accurate records and reports.
- Attend all mandatory orientation and training sessions.
- Treat all seniors with dignity and respect.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong communication abilities.
- Dependable and punctual.
- Empathetic, compassionate, and non-judgmental.
- Sensitivity to the needs of seniors and individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Willingness to contribute to improving the lives of seniors.
- Proficiency in additional languages is a huge asset (specifically Chinese and Tagalog)


All new MPNH volunteers must complete:
- Volunteer Application Form and Policy signing form
- Volunteer Interview and Orientation  
- Criminal Record Check
