Support Group Facilitator, Caregivers [Locations available across BC]

3-6 hours / monthly
Minimum commitment is 2 year.
Support Group Facilitators create a safe and open space for participants to share their concerns and solutions. 

Locations: Available across BC including, 
Interior - Kamloops, Oliver, Penticton, Princeton, Vernon, Williams Lake
North - Dawson Creek, Hazelton, Prince George, Quesnel
Vancouver Coastal - North Vancouver, Vancouver 
Vancouver Island - Nanaimo, Victoria

Responsibilities and tasks: 
•	Facilitate or co-facilitate monthly support groups 
•	Provide a safe and welcoming environment for discussion and support 
•	Deliver information relevant to the monthly theme at the beginning of each group
•	Inform the participants about the objectives and ground rules for the group
•	Empower participants by discussing the key role they play for themselves and each other
•	Involve participants through invitation and inclusion
•	Initiate, clarify and summarize discussions as required
•	Connect support group participants through discussion about shared common experiences 
•	Set up room and coordinate logistics
•	Complete support group report including attendance and debrief with supervisor
 
Recommended skills, knowledge, and competencies:
•	Excellent communication skills
•	Experience in group facilitation is an asset 
•	Ability to prepare for and deliver education component 
•	Professionalism / boundary setting as support group facilitator 
•	Cultural awareness and sensitivity
•	Effective listening skills

Training 
All support group facilitators will participate in a virtual two-day training session, onsite training, and complete eLearning modules.

•	Play an integral role in helping the Alzheimer Society of B.C. support those who are living with the challenges of dementia and those who care for them. 
•	References/reference letters may be provided to volunteers who successfully complete 6 months in a single position.
