OSAC Walking Supervision

This volunteer position is a great opportunity for people in our community to connect with Okotoks youth. This position will be working with children aged 5-12 years old in the Okotoks School Age Care (OSAC) program. It is a before and after school program offered to children who attend Percy Pegler, Dr. Morris Gibson and Good Shepherd schools. The program transports children to and from school on foot.

Key Responsibilities:
Help walk children to and from school alongside an OSAC trained educator.
Assist children in getting ready for school (jackets, backpacks, mittens).
Be a mentor to children in the program by role modelling appropriate behaviour
Interact with children, assist with art activities, get to know children’s interests, and help them to work through problems that may arise
Demonstrated safety awareness and customer focus.
Strong communication, teamwork, and relationship building skills

Hours:
We need volunteers from 8 AM- 9 AM and 2:45 PM-4:30 PM Monday- Friday, as well as Fridays from 12 PM- 2 PM.

Potential Risks and PPE required:

This position has a higher risk for slips and falls due to unpredictable walking conditions
It is important that the person fulfilling this role wear appropriate footwear (grips, crampons) and outerwear to handle exposure to varying Alberta weather conditions. .
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs on an infrequent basis

Requirements:
Current criminal record check with vulnerable sector search
Must be 18+
