Pet Therapy - Barrhead

Shepherd’s Care Foundation is a faith-based, not-for-profit organization providing quality care and accommodations to more than 900 seniors throughout Edmonton and Barrhead. Our seven campuses provide living options for a full spectrum of care, including independent living, supportive living, supportive living with dementia, long-term care, and complex care.

Pet Therapy animals will visit only specified residents onsite according to needs and as scheduled by SCF staff and/or provide supervision for safe resident interaction with the pet therapy animal. Volunteer is responsible for all clean up of animal “messes”. Some of the benefits of Pet Therapy for our residents include increasing social interaction, enhancing mood, providing sensory stimulation, increasing range of motion, and experiencing self-expression and trust. 

NOTE: This role requires the use of the volunteers own dog which must comply with the standards of a screening program deemed recognized by SCF. Completion of an SCF recognized Pet Therapy Training Program and understanding of proper force free handling of animals. Mishandling and/or abuse of animals will not be tolerated.
