**Who We Are**

Blueprint – University of Alberta Chapter is a student-run organization that creates tech solutions pro bono for non-profit organizations. Established in 2022, we are a growing organization with clients in Edmonton and Calgary. Although based out of the University of Alberta, our chapter welcomes volunteers of all kinds and backgrounds, including new graduates and students from other universities. We are affiliated with the Blueprint brand, which was founded in 2013 at the University of California, Berkeley, and are among four established chapters in Canada.

Blueprint’s mission is to make beautiful engineering accessible and useful for those who create communities and promote public welfare. Our chapter is currently undertaking numerous web and mobile app development projects for nonprofits and the clients they serve, including the homeless community and families of people with dementia. This would not occur without the dedication of our interdisciplinary team, with backgrounds ranging from art and design to engineering and business.

**How You Can Help**

We are seeking product designer volunteers to deliver high-quality UI/UX work for the projects we build. Product designers work closely within our team, interfacing with the product manager, project developers, and other designers.

**Responsibilities**

- Gather, understand, and translate client requirements into clear, usable, and appealing interface designs by using tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, and Sketch
- Engage in the hands-on design and delivery of high-fidelity UI mockups, prototypes, user stories, and wireframe app screens for a wide range of devices and interfaces
- Adopt a design thinking mindset by looking past personal bias and design experiences that reflect the needs of the end user
- Iterate upon designs based upon the evolving needs of clients, technical constraints, and feedback from developers
- Demonstrate a dedication to continuous learning of UI/UX fundamentals
- Participate in product critiques and other design events, led by the VP Design

**Desired Qualifications**

- Passion for and interest in pursuing a career in UI/UX design
- Knowledge of UI/UX design principles and design processes
- Experience using Figma and Adobe XD
- Strong visual design skills, as demonstrated through portfolio
- Effective communication skills to interact with our cross-functional teams and clients
- Ability to receive and integrate feedback
- Hunger to learn
Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
By volunteering at Blueprint, you’ll gain valuable experience to develop your career. You'll have the opportunity to take your UI/UX design skills to the next level and network with like-minded peers, cross-functional teams, and members of other Blueprint chapters.
