Board Chair for Patient Advocacy Non-profit

Open Arms Patient Advocacy Society is currently recruiting for a Board Chair to lead our team! We are a non-profit Alberta organization who advocates with families and patients to help them obtain information where unanswered questions may remain with respect to their treatment within the health system. 

Responsibilities
*The Chair of the Board will support and sustain the work of Open Arms and provide governance leadership and strategic fundraising support. 
*Develop, manage relationships, and communicate with: funders, partners, and other agencies.  
*As a board member, approve Open Arms annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions; being informed of, and meeting all, legal and fiduciary responsibilities.  
*Regularly measure implemented initiatives and their effectiveness.  
*Develops the long and short term strategic plan of the organization. Through means of SWOT analysis, financial statements and current market trends, the Chair is responsible to set and guide board members to meet desired goals for the organization. 
*Responsible for all human resource functions as they relate to the Board members. The chair is responsible for providing resources, support and guidance to directors.  
*Supervises the affairs of the Board and ensures policies are in accordance to the By-Laws and Objectives of the society. 
*Is a spokesperson for the Society and positively presents the Society to media, other organizations, health care officials and the community. 
*Must be a member of the Executive Committee as well as all committees within the Board 
*Assist the Committee in recruiting board members.  
*Periodically consult with board members on their roles and help them assess their performance. 
*Plan, preside and facilitate board and committee meetings to ensure that board resolutions are implemented. 
*Act as an ambassador for the organization.  
*In collaboration with the Board, generate annual revenue and foster Open Arms overall financial health.  
*Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major individual donors, corporate, and/or foundation gifts. 

 
This position provides the flexibility for an individual to work from home during the hours that are convenient and will stay connected as a Board Member through monthly meetings.

Certification or Education Required
Any leadership or strategic certification and experience is preferred
