As a partner in Canada's first Dementia Friendly Park in Calgary AB, Cycling Without Age Canada will donate a trishaw and provide key personnel to run the Cycling Without Age program at the park. Those touched by dementia will be able to experience an hour of freedom as we cycle through the park and across the ridge gazing out at the mountains. Caregivers will be provided the opportunity to relax, unwind and know their loved one is being taken care of. We have found that the simple act of getting someone outside and on a bike can bring back memories, help increase appetite, provide sounder sleep and result in fewer outbursts.

To help run this program we are seeking an energetic and fun summer student to help coordinate the activities at the Dementia Friendly Park. This person’s role will consist of:

Recruitment of Passengers: Develop a passenger recruitment campaign to educate caregivers on the program and benefits to people touched by dementia.
Recruitment of Volunteers: Develop a volunteer recruitment campaign to attract individuals interested in helping give back in their community by cycle our passengers.
Training of Volunteers: Conduct orientation sessions for volunteers, providing them with the necessary information on bike, passenger safety protocols and effective communication with seniors.
Scheduling Bike Rides: Centrally coordinate rides from a passenger and volunteer perspective ensuring that seniors feel comfortable and supported during the biking experience.
Document and Share Success Stories: Capture and share success stories, testimonials, and photos from seniors who have participated in the bike rides to encourage more community members to join.
Recognition and Appreciation: Implement a recognition program to acknowledge the efforts of volunteers, fostering a positive and supportive community.
